China Report celebrates its 50th anniversary!
China Report
08 May 2014: SAGE India flagship journal China Report: A Journal of East Asian Studies celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2014. From its inception, China Report has been dedicated to encouraging the development of distinctly Indian ways of understanding and appreciating China, while at the same time absorbing and providing a platform for the best that the scholarship of the rest of the world has to offer. "This will continue to be our credo. We are acutely aware of our responsibility, as China Report still remains the only journal from India dedicated to the study and analysis of China" said the elated journal editors.
In 1987, SAGE Publications assumed charge of the journal's publication and marketing. Shortly afterwards, the cover and format of the journal also underwent a change–long-time readers will recall the trademark maroon colour, with the beautiful calligraphy of Tan Chung, one of the most prolific contributors to the journal from its earliest days, gracing the cover.
The increasing readership of China Report is encouraging corroboration of the widening and diversifying nature of the Indian academic community and scholarship on China. In a scenario where the strategic and especially the security discourse, has often seen sharp polarization, China Report has been fairly successful in establishing the importance of serious, in-depth and comparative research from a multi and interdisciplinary perspective.
With this, China Report undergoes another transition. Alka Acharya's seven year-long tenure as Editor of the journal is coming to an end, and Madhavi Thampi is taking over as the new Editor.
As China Report celebrates its fiftieth year of publication, Mr Vivek Mehra, Managing Director & CEO,SAGE India said, "SAGE has always endeavoured to provide an interface for exchange of scholarly communication and discussions/exchange of different ideas, approaches and viewpoints which assist a better understanding of China and its East Asian neighbours. This is an indelible moment that celebrates and upholds the vision and philosophy that SAGE has always stood for. I would like to personally congratulate the efforts of the Editors and each contributor to this flagship journal for making it what it is today."
